Social Power Linking Tip From Jack Humphrey

March 19th, 2008 · 5 Comments

This came across my desk today and I wanted to share this with you all…it ties in nicely with step 3 from last night

Social Marketing Power Tip!

Building Your Social Authority…

When you sign up for a social site, whether it is a social news site like Digg.com or a community like Mashable, make sure you are
commenting on, and submitting things to them that are not yours. Completely fill out your profile and set up your links back to your site(s). Then take part in these communities by voting for content that is related to your own site.

This is called Social Authority Building and will serve you well as you develop it on different high traffic social sites.

“…commenting on, and submitting things to them that are not completely fill out…”

I got the gist and I’m going go start using DIgg for the first time… but was there something that was supposed to go in between “not” and “completely”?

I have a feeling something important is missing there. Or am I reading wrong?

Sam, 1st thanks for your help and dedication to our success. I just started using social sites earlier this year and am amazed with the people I’ve been able to network with and that have checked out my site. Thats how I found you and Jack!

I see endless potential and now that I’m learning and understanding the process of doing it correctly, WOW!

Like Christopher, I think there is a line or two missing from the following paragraph. Could you please amend as I don’t understand it as it is.

“When you sign up for a social site, whether it is a social news site like Digg.com or a community like Mashable, make sure you
commenting on, and submitting things to them that are not completely fill out your profile and set up your links back to your site(s). Then take part in these communities by voting for, related to your own site.”

    Thank you
    Joe

I think the missing part might be “not always related to your sites”.

It appears more natural to comment and submit things that are in areas other than just your own. You don’t want to be considered a SPAMMER on a social site - that is instant death!

Use the social bookmarking tools as they were intended to be used, and mark things that are of interest to you in all aspects of your life.

That is why you need to fill out your profile so that people will see that your submissions connect with you as a real person and not a contrived identity.
